CVNNH 100+ CLUB

The North Northumberland Hunt Supporters' Club has been running a 100 Club, according to available records, for at least the past 27 years.  Angela Hallam-Baker took over as secretary in 1993 when Bobby Little retired from the job.

In 2005, following the demise of the College Valley Hunt Supporters' 100 Club, it was agreed that the name of the NNHS 100 Club should be changed to encourage the "disenfranchised" members to join the CVNNH 100+ Club.  This did boost the membership but, sadly, a number of subscribers were lost in the subsequent years, some having passed away or moved house and others just not having got round to renewing their membership.  A donation of £500 was passed to the Hunt for the year ending 31 December 2007, but this dropped to £450 for the subsequent year, so we do need new members.

Full details of the membership, subscription rates and dates of the monthly Draws, including the £100 Christmas Prize Draw in December, are available under Rules and Regulations, together with an Application and Standing Order Form.  The use of standing orders for membership renewal is encouraged to save reminders being sent out and then subscribers having to remember to renew.

Although some of the numbers already subscribed are over 100, lower numbers are still available when their former subscribers cease membership ~ these lower numbers will be allocated to new members.

Please go to Event Downloads on the Home Page to view and/or print the Rules and Regulations, Application Form and Standing Order Form.

Welcome to CVNNH PDF Print E-mail

We welcome you to our website.  As our site develops we hope to provide you with information, news and views with an aim to building our community relations.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated by using the contact form.

The College Valley and North Northumberland Hunt came into existence in 1982, when The College Valley Hunt amalgamated with the North Northumberland. The Country hunted is in Northumberland and extends from the Kale Water in the north-west taking in the Cheviot Hills to the Harthope Burn and Glendale Valley and on to the coastal strip by Holy Island and then north to Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the Scottish Border.

The College Valley Hunt was founded in 1924 by Sir Alfred Goodson. These hounds soon established a tremendous reputation and were sought after the world over. Sir Alfred was a successful breeder of livestock, particularly Aberdeen Angus cattle and Cheviot sheep and he soon applied his breeding skills to foxhounds developing a wonderful cry with speed, accuracy and intelligence using mainly fell lines. More recently Martin Letts has bred the hounds for some forty years using similar principles but since the amalgamation of the North Northumberland Hunt an infusion of the modern studbook foxhound has been incorporated to enable the pack to operate successfully in the lowland country.

The North Northumberland Hounds were the property of the Joicey family of Ford & Etal and were run and managed as a private pack until the merger. The Hunt was formerly known as the Glendale and enjoyed a series of successful masterships until the outbreak of war in 1914 when the Hon Freddie Lambton then came forward at the age of 61 to keep the Hunt going as acting master, secretary and amateur huntsman. It was in 1920 when Lt Col the Hon H E Joicey DSO began his first mastership of the North Northumberland.

Presently there are 40½ couples of hounds kennelled at Langholm Toll, Mindrum. The kennels have recently been gifted to the Country by the Goodson family in memory of the late Sir Alfred Goodson. The hounds are looked after by the kennel huntsman, Andrew Proe, who has been employed by the hunt since 1984.

October 2010: Just wanted to thank you on behalf of my children, Michael and Fern, who had an absolute ball at your Opening Meet!  They talked non-stop on the way home about how much fun they had and of the friendliness and kindness they were shown by everyone.  Many thanks again. Trudi Walton.

October 2010: We would just like to say thank you very much for welcoming us to your opening meet, we thoroughly enjoyed it.  Everyone was so friendly and we had a great time.  Beth (on bay horse) and Ruby (on little grey pony).

January 2011: Hello, once again we want to thank you all for the wonderful day's hunting we had with you on Saturday 29th January.  My legs have still not recovered, but it was well worth the pain!  As before, we were made to feel very welcome and a part of the whole day.  People were so kind, especially the lady who helped me when my saddle slipped (I didn't get her name) and Fiona, who was just lovely and looked after us the whole time.  We hope to be allowed to come again in the not too distant future.  If Megan had her way it would be every week!  I wish we didn't live so far away.  Many, many thanks.  Tom Watson (and Megan)

The College Valley North Northumberland Hunt operates entirely within the law and the objectives for the season are:

  • Conduct legal activities only
  • Maintain infra-structure of the Hunt
  • To continue the high standard of hound management and animal welfare
  • To respect and abide by the wishes of our farmers and landowners
  • To simulate hunting by laying a trail across open country and woodland
  • Hounds will be encouraged to draw for the trail and to hunt the scent
  • If it becomes apparent that foxes have intervened, hounds will be picked up immediately and draw for a new trail
  • It is not against the law to ride with hounds and control hounds by traditional methods
  • We will continue to operate our fox control service under the Scottish legislation where appropriate
