CVNNH Point-to-Point Report 7 March 2010

Having had to re-fix our Point-to-Point from 21 February, we were lucky to come up with a date within the 16 days which meant that all the entries stood and we did not have to re-print the race card.

We were also very lucky with the weather ~ to think that only 3 point-to-points have been run in the north so far, with The Cumberland Farmers' at Dalston the day before.

We had 139 entries with 45 runners.

The first race, sadly, only had 3 runners with nobody from the CVNNH to win the silver salver for the first CVNNH runner home.  I know, from our point of view, with the ground having been so hard, we had not worked our horses.  This race was won by Old Rolla (Jedforest), 2nd Seaview Lass (Percy) and 3rd Risky Rythm (Haydon).

The second race had 8 runners and was won by Quinder Spring (Kingdom Bloodhounds), 2nd Nectar De Guye (Sinnington) and 3rd Bal Des Champs (Percy).

The third race, the Restricted, had 5 runners and was won by Indian Print (Percy), 2nd Risk Assessment (Duke of Buccleuch), 3rd Celestial Hall (Braes).

The fourth race, the Ladies' Open, had 5 runners and was won by Robin De Sherwood (Percy), 2nd Lady Brig (Jedforest) and 3rd High Five (Morpeth).

The fifth race, The Men's Open, had 6 runners and was won by Senora Moss (Lauderdale) owned by Ann Rutherford who is Peter Warcup's sister, 2nd Ann's Benefit (Percy) and 3rd Almost Blue (Fife).

The sixth race, The Open Maiden Div I, had 8 runners and was won by Miss Teeny Bash (Duke of Buccleuch), 2nd Bear Dancing (Kingdom Bloodhounds) and 3rd Master Saddler (Percy)

The seventh race, The Open Maiden Div II, had 10 runners and was won by Putitawayforayear (Lauderdale), 2nd Moor Red (Percy) and 3rd Dee Cee Bolter (Jedforest).

We had two young jockeys from the CVNNH ~ David Jeffreys who had a 4th in the seventh race and Nick Orpwood who fell in the sixth race.

My very great thanks to all our sponsors without whom we could not run our Point-to-Point and who, despite how awful things are at the moment, have been very kind to us.

Last but not least my thanks to all the people who gave up their day to help us.  It takes over 80 people to run our Point-to-Point and I cannot thank you enough for all your help.  If there was no hunting, where would you find 80 people to run a Point-to-Point?

Simon Orpwood
